Hostal Tamarindo offers weary travellers a genuine smile and a hot cup of coco.
Hostal Tamarindo’s Colombian owner who grew up in New York was one of the first to set up camp in Medellín – so there’s no sense of her wanting to cash in on the recent hostel gold rush or trying to woo visitors with wild claims about having the best foosball table.
Instead, Hostel Tamarindo caters to a slightly older demographic who reap the rewards of a hostel free from shenanigans during the day and the occasional dose of chaos a stone’s throw away in Casa Kiwi or Parque Lleras at night.
Anybody concerned about safety will be reassured by the presence of Ramona the dog, who is head of hostel security and ever-present should something untoward happen – that is – except when she is courting the local stray dog for whom she lets her guard down.
