El Patio del Tango serves excellent Argentinean steak accompanied by live tango music and a large collection of Carlos Gardel memorabilia.

The restaurant is famous for its eccentric founder affectionately known as El Gordo (the fat one). El Gordo was a renowned butcher and tango singer in Medellín and has become a legend in his own right.

The restaurant is now managed by El Gordo’s son-in-law who might be heading towards legend status himself as, unable to conceal his excitement, he often gives impromptu tours to new visitors who then become inspired by his infectious pride.

On Friday and Saturday evenings singers dressed to the nines belt out tangos accompanied by an accordion much to the delight of the local community.
